Sadie, Superpuppy Extraordinaire
Today is day 7 with Sadie, Superpuppy Extraordinaire...Unlike normal puppies, Sadie can jump tall buildings in a single bound ...okay, okay...just tall blockades...she's up to jumping 18" now. *sigh* I've revised my basement "kennel" yet again, blocking off an 8-foot doorway (where the furnace, water heater, & litter box is kept) with a spare entry door and closet door (nearly 3-foot tall when sideways). I know she can't jump over that, but I'm afraid I may not have enough stuff behind it to support the weight should she start pushing. I don't want it accidentally falling on her or Maia (the cat). I should go fiddle with it some more, but I need a break. Maia should be happy that she has a secure area in which to get away from Sadie, but she seems to think, instead, that I'm trying to pen her in because the yowls coming from the basement earlier sound just like those she makes when confined in the kennel. lol I have no sympathy...if she can jump on the counters (which she does occasionally, provoking my wrath), she can jump over either of those doors quite easily. She's just being a wuss.
What surprises me the most about bringing a puppy into the household is that my cat, who is turning 3 in a few months, has given complete dominance to a small 4-month old puppy. Go figure. I thought she would maintain her dominance as the First Pet, but nooooooo....the puppy chases her everywhere and even though I should scold her, I can't. They have to figure out their own boundaries. If Sadie was doing it to attack, it would be a different story, but her body language is that of playing. She looks so darn pleased when she comes prancing back to me, I have laugh sometimes. I do have to say that Maia is becoming less and less afraid, so you animal lovers out there don't have to worry. I'm not torturing the cat. I think it's almost becoming a game for her as well because she follows Sadie almost immediately and they spend the evenings running back and forth, back and forth. I hope to find them snuggled together someday. I won't hold my breath though. ;)
