The Case of the Cartwheel Wedgie

Last night was my sister's Rhythm Squad night. As a departing senior it was an emotional event and I duly handled the camcorder duties in order to record almost every moment. What I did not record were the elementary and middle-school routines. Their routines were cute, but what I found to be the most entertaining were the tumbling and other antics of the kids during the 20-minute intermission. Some of those girls had obviously been in dance and tumbling classes for quite awhile. They were very flexible! There two girls in particular who enjoyed tumbling and would coordinate their moves in perfect symmetry, then deliberately land on their bottoms and slid backwards from their momentum. When their bodies stopped sliding they would collapse on the floor in giggles and then run to do it all over again. However, there was another little girl that just had me in stitches. Her parents had, for some reason, put her in spandex shorts...and every time she'd attempt a cartwheel, she'd then have to stop, pull her shorts out of the wedgie they had just made and dash off to do another cartwheel. It became a routine and I had a hard time controlling my giggles.

The Rhythm Squad and the Rhythm Men (those few guys who were brave enough to let the girls teach them a routine) were pretty good and I enjoyed seeing the routines they had been working on over the past year. They added a few new ones for last night -- a hip hop routine, VERY cool, and a accessory-routine (I can't recall the appropriate name for it) for which they stuffed their pants with pillows to get obscenely protuding backsides and did a routine to "Baby Got Back". It was hilarious!
