It's Spring!

It may not feel like spring, but today is officially the first day of spring! Yes! Sadie and I took a jaunt around the yard on Friday evening. I wanted to check my flower beds for signs of growth and boy did I find them! Not only are the lilacs continuing to show buds, but the lilies, daisies, and sedum are showing growth. The Irises are still scroungy from last year so I can't tell if it's new growth or old growth. I think there may be crocuses in my front beds, but never having seen blooms, I can't be for certain. I just know that there are quite a few clumps of very green, striped blades popping up. The roses are even showing buds. I'll be feeling guilty very soon because I'll be digging up those roses and consigning them to death. They haven't produced any blooms in two years and tend to grow with gross looking spots on the thorny tentacles. I think they are diseased, so they've gotta go. I feel guilty when I let plants die, but I'm trying to look at it from a medical standpoint - sometimes you gotta cut out the sick in order to heal the whole.

The farmers have started discing the fields in preparation for planting. It's exciting to see because you really know that warmer weather is on its way. In a few weeks it'll be daylight savings time and we'll gain an hour of sunlight in the evenings. I can't wait! I'm not looking forward to losing an hour in the morning, but it'll be nice to be able to work in the yard for at least a little bit after work!
