Roll the Dice!
So we're getting a casino apparently. I didn't really think it would pass but I guess they really got their ducks in a row for this one. They'll start construction this summer for it to be up and running in a few years. On the one hand, I'm not looking forward to the increased traffic....but on the other hand, they're saying our property values will increase. I feel like one of those statues holding a balancing scale...increased traffic vs. increased property values...increased gambling addictions vs. increased jobs to replace the factories that have left the area....
There are strong opinions on all sides, except in my house... I'll just pull out my lawn chair and watch the show. I don't have a strong opinion either way. I don't really gamble and I barely know anyone here anyway. Another stranger or two isn't going to make much difference to me! I have to admit, though, that I like the thought of rising property values! ;)

Having lived in a town that has two large casinos, I must say that there really isn't all that much difference. On a Friday or Saturday night, there will be an increase in traffic right around the casino area but not much elsewhere or on any other days of the week. Once the newness wheres off, it will be business as usual.
I have a hard time understanding the logic of property values increasing. Do people really move to towns with casinos? I can see maybe your property increasing if you were in the same neighborhood but who would want to live next to a business that operates 24/7/365? If anything, I would think values would decrease as people lose their money there instead of spending it in town.
