Adventures of the Great White Hunter...
My dogs rarely fail to make me laugh over an antic...tonight was no exception. During our routine before-bedtime potty session, I saw a very large cricket speedily making his way to the edge of the carport. I immediately pointed it out to Sadie [The Great White Hunter] who chased the thing in circles before it dove through a hole in the lattice. Sadie, caught up in the rush of chasing something new and interesting, thought she too could make it through a 2" opening in the lattice...um..no sweetie. I had to lure her around the side after which she promptly snorted and snuffled her way along the edge of the carport to pick up the scent of the cricket. She couldn't find it and my efforts to redirect her farther out (where the cricket was sitting still) were not working. Finally I grabbed her lead and pulled her over to the cricket and the chase was on again...until he disappeared into the grass. She didn't give up though. Oh no! She was determined to snuffle and snort every blade of grass until she found it. Poor Sadie...it was dark and there were just too many blades of grass...better luck next time!

Reminds me of the time my dog Ted chased down and swallowed a locust... whole. For a couple minutes afterwards, everytime Ted opened his mouth, you could hear the locust croaking from somewhere deep within him.
