Saved!!...

So, I've been sick for the past week with what I thought was a passing virus. WRONG! With each day getting subsequently worse, I finally decided I was close enough to my version of "death's door" to call for a Dr. appointment. Of course, I couldn't get one anywhere near the University...oh no...heaven forbid there be any openings when you need them. I thought to myself, "Ok, I'll just run down to the employee clinic and have my temp taken. If I have a fever, then I'll go home and get an appointment there." Ha! Easier said than done. Please explain this to me: the University has an employee clinic, yet they are "unable to take temperatures without a physician present because of liability". What?? It's a temperature...not a diagnosis. So I wander down to the pharmacy and check out their over-the-counter stuff...no thermometer. I check the gift shop's over-the-counter section...no thermometer. Crap. Finally, after several colleagues told me that I looked like crap and asked if I was going home, I decided that was a fine idea! I made an appointment with a local clinic, got in right away, and left work. It was the best decision I could have made. I'm now on strict orders to rest and stay home because I apparently have some kind of invasive infection. I'm actually feeling fortunate that it is an infection because they initially thought it was appendicitis and called in a surgical consult. After a few minutes with the surgeon, he looks and me says in an Asian accent "I don't think you are a surgical case. *big smile here* This is good news!" I immediately agreed, of course. LOL The next option was to stay overnight in the hospital with an IV...hmmm, do I have to? Eventually the doctor agreed to send me home with an aggressive antibiotic regimen and I'm to return tomorrow to see if my white cell count has diminished. Considering it was through the roof today, I'm hoping there is improvement. The last thing I want to do this weekend is play guest in the local hospital. Ugh.

Did you see the premier of the new series Invasion? Me neither but I couldn't help but think of that when you mentioned invasive virus. Mommy, you smell funny!

Get better soon.

Actually, I did watch most of Invasion. It's just another sci-fi show. I fell asleep towards the end, but I imagine I didn't miss much. The creepiest part was at the end (I woke up just in time for the last 2 minutes) where the mommy and stepdaddy were standing at the edge of the lake (where mommy's body was found naked after a hurricane without a single mark) and the stepdaddy says "the first day is the hardest, do you feel better now?" and then they both snuggle and look at the water. I'm waiting for Mulder (X-Files) to have a cameo role to spout paranoia and government cover-up gibberish.
