A runescape conversation…
So…I was playing runescape on Saturday night (big surprise, I know), spinning flax into bowstrings…and this character comes up behind me and gives the hokiest line I’ve ever heard on rs…it went something like this:
Dragon: “Nice.” (referring to my outfit which, ironically enough, was suitable for a nun to wear..but I was looking quite goth at the time)
Gidget: “Thx”
Dragon: “Wanna make out in rs?” (rs = runescape)
Gidget: “No” (walking away)
Dragon: “But….” (following)
Dragon: “But…I’m Drake”
Gidget: “Drake who?”
Dragon: “Drake Parker”
Gidget: “And that means….?”
Dragon: “I’m hot”
At this point he’s being made fun of by other characters and stomps away with a “Fine, Whatever…”
What a hoot! My online cohort, Psy, says I broke his heart. I agreed that I apparently treated him badly since I’ve been accused of that before (with that phrasing).
What’s up with all these users thinking they need runescape “significant others”? I just don’t get it…what does an rs boyfriend & girlfriend do anyway? I’ve yet to receive a good answer other than “you help each other”. Hmmm…that’s what my group of friends do anyway!

Oh Ed...you must have missed that part of prior conversations. Yes, there are over 500,000 users of runescape. Runescape has hundreds of servers, based throughout the world, but primarily in the United States. Each server has a limited capacity for users and I have seen servers marked as "FULL" for some areas. We refer to the servers as "worlds" and can jump from world to world if we want. They all look the same though. Regardless of what world I'm in, I can communicate to my rs friends via an instant message type of function within the game. Some users have even formed clans...
LOL...no one in the bushes..that's funny. I haven't the faintest idea how rs characters "make out". However, I have seen players make inappropriate commentary (against the rules due to the large population of teen users). I considered reporting the user but just ignored the conversation instead. Young teens most definitely do not need to read the graphic descriptions that were being said.
I'm just glad they haven't introduced the concept of "marriage" on the game, or us females would be harrassed even more! On text-based games I've created my chars as male despite my being female in RL, just to avoid being proposed to 50 times a day.

Jill, thanks for commenting! I've actually been proposed to for a "runescape marriage" and even was given the token ring. I thought it was ridiculous but played along until I became too annoyed with the other player to take it any longer. ;) I'll definitely check out your blog!
