In search of Time...

One of the things that annoys me most is not being able to find what I'm looking for. I was scanning my CNN news index yesterday at lunchtime (I've been deleting them unread for two weeks now) and saw an anthropology reference on Kenniwick Man. Being a bit of an anthro junkie, I wanted to read the whole article, but CNN referred the interested reader to Time.com. I thought, yes! Time will post the whole article for CNN readers to view the article. Normally you have to have an online subscription to read Time articles. Alas, it was not so. The link provided by CNN didn't work and I had to type in "Time.com" in my address bar in order to access the page. And, of course, I couldn't read more than a paragraph of the article. *sigh* So, I tried an alternate route. Working in higher education, my institution carries electronic subscriptions for thousands of journals and periodicals so I accessed the gateway to the those listings and found Time. After spending several minutes going through the process of selecting the year, the volume, issue and etc, I finally am at a webpage that appears as if I can read the article. I scroll down and wham! "Online Time subscribers, please login to read more of the story". Argh! Apparently Time isn't among our electronic subscriptions. Figures.

So, attempts three & four: I visited the hospital gift shop during my lunch hour to see if they had the issue I wanted. They did have Time but it was from four weeks ago. *sigh* Next! I had drove to work yesterday since I had overslept my alarm and missed the vanpool. Since I was planning to stop by the hardware store anyway, I made another stop along the way to look for the newest issue of Time. My only option on that side of town was Wally World. Do you think they carry Time? NO! I gave up. I'll just have to walk downtown today during my lunch hour to look for it at city's independent bookstore. If it's not there, there's an Osco in the mall that might have it. LOL

The sacrifices we make for academic interests....sheesh!

Me personally, I would have just used google to learn that there is an entire website at http://www.kennewick-man.com/ dedicated to the Kennewick man complete with hundreds of articles on the man, including many from last month. Good luck.

But not the one featured by Time, which is what I'm interested in. The articles shown on that website are all written by Tri-City Herald staff writers. I'm not interested in a newspaper accounting and am hoping that the Time article will reference more scholarly sources of information.
