Slave to the envelope...

I've worked in my current office for over six years now and during all those years I've always felt like a slave to the envelope that appears in the computer tray display area indicating "you have mail". You try to ignore it, but it almost seems to pulse with life of it's own, calling your name and chanting "you have mail, you have mail, you have mail". Before you know it, you find yourself checking your inbox and reading an email just so the stupid thing disappears and you can get on with your work. I've tried my options tool bars and customization screens in an effort to "ditch the envelope" because it is too distracting but to no avail. Then, one day last week I right clicked my mouse on the envelope icon and discovered that here was the source of getting rid of the annoying notification. On the simple menu was "hide envelope". Hrmmm...why couldn't they have that under your options?

So I find myself now enjoying my day without being a slave to the envelope. Of course, I don't know, now, when mail does arrive but that's okay because I can finally put the advice of organizational guru's to practice and only check my email twice a day. The pressure is gone!

As Martin Luther King put it, "Free at last! free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

Ok, that's oversell a bit, but I'm glad you discovered how to get rid of a minor irritant.

Hi, my name is Ed Abbey and I am a slave to my email... at work. I can go a week at home without checking my email but I can't ignore the popup box that announces that I have mail and asks yes or no if I want to read it now.

I immediately disabled the pop up box with the subject line that kept appearing on my screen. It was just that stupid envelope that I couldn't figure out!
