An unexpected letter...

I received an unexpected letter on Friday. At first I didn't think I had received any mail (an unusual occurrence) but I felt the edge of a small card as I pulled my hand out of my mailbox. Generally I flip through the mail as I walk around the house to the side door entrance but this single item stopped me in my tracks. I stood there on the front porch, mystified, as I saw the return address. It was from someone that I hardly ever talk to. I wondered whythis person was writing to me...it's not my birthday....it's not Christmas (the only times of the year I typically hear from this person). So, I took the card inside and let my little darlings outside before opening the card. To my surprise, it was just a chatty note. I was puzzled but pleasantly so.

I called my mother to tell her about the card and said, "I just scratched my head and said 'Well I'll be darned...'" ;) When, after so many years, you've learned to not expect gestures like this, it's a helluva surprise when you do get one!
