Pet product woes...

So, I've been on a mission to find a good multi-dog leash so I can walk my girls at night without feeling as if my hand is being torn up (from holding two leashes) and my arm is being dislocated at every jerk of the leash. I thought I had found one in a leash offered by Xtreme Pet Products, which advertises a bungee-like stretchiness that reduces the jerking sensation and has a swivel that prevents tangling of the lines. However, during our first walk, I noticed that the portion of leash between the swivel and the handle had become very thin, as if there was a break in the inner structure. I watched it for about a minute was we continued our walk and it appeared as if it was holding. Uneasy, I glanced at it frequently watching for breaking rope fibers. The last thing I want is for the girls to be loose with a broken leash trailing behind them. I would be devastated if it caused them to be caught or pulled under a vehicle's tires. I decided to cut the walk short and turned around for home. Not even halfway home, I noticed that now the inner structure of the leash was protuding through the outer rope braids. It was definitely not a whole piece. I assumed it was a defective product and immediately laced my fingers through the swivel to maintain a solid hold on the girls while we returned home. I reported the defection to the customer service person of the website I had used to order it (a middleman that I will leave unnamed since it's not her fault). She relayed my message to the manufacturer who said a small separation was normal. This was not "small" by my definition as it ended up being a 1" gap in a length of rope that is only about 12" as it is. After several messages back and forth, including pictures of the leash's "defects", the manufacturer ended up accusing me of pulling the ends through the outer rope to make it look bad. I am extremely offended. I was excited by the features of this leash and I would certainly not tamper with the product, potentially endangering my pets lives, just because I might want to make it "look bad". Please. Unfortunately I did not receive the accusation until after I had sent the leash back with a nice letter requesting a refund, or a replacement if the leash was faulty. After receiving the accusation, I now ONLY want a refund and I have informed the middleman company that I will definitely NOT recommend Xtreme Pet Products to any of my friends. Prior to the accusation I was actually considering purchasing just the bungee-portion of the leash, but now I want nothing to do with them. Aside from their products, their customer service obviously needs improving!

So, based on my experience, I am definitely telling all of you pet people to think twice before purchasing anything from Xtreme Pet Products.

I taught my dog how to heel on walks so that he wasn't tugging my arm off.

Somehow two energetic and excited jack russells can't grasp that concept. I think they feed each other's excitement...

Yeah, all dogs have their faults. Mine had a penchant for rolling in dead animals and chasing skunks. I never taught either of those traits out of him.

I first taught him how to sit and stay. Then I kept him on a short leash at my side and kept repeating heel as we walked along. Once the leash came off, I kept repeating it. If he got out front, I told him to sit until I got in front again and then allowed him to follow. I always pointed behind me when saying heel. It didn't take him too long to figure it out though he still had a tendency to forget if he became excited at the sight of some animal. Keep in mind, I had a golden retriever/yellow lab mix which are much more calm by nature than Gidget's dogs.
