Hoots and hollers...

Not too much has been going on lately. I've become a little more familiar than I'd like with the medical profession, especially in regards to tests. Several years ago both my mother and sister had a problem with keeping food down. The doctors couldn't figure out what was causing them to feel so ill but eventually the symptoms went away and both are fine. Now it seems to be my turn and I've been struggling with this off and on since I had the Splenda reaction/illness in December. Every test indicates I'm normal...go figure. I'm nearly used to the pain and nausea on a daily basis and have slowly eliminated one food after another until left with bread, broth, and tea. I've added a few things here and there that only cause discomfort rather than stabbing pain so at least I have a limited variety. Chicken broth can only be considered "yummy" for a short, short period of time. LOL. Fortunately the last week has been much better and I even got some yard work done! I may even put in a new flower bed in the next few weeks. Miracles will never cease...

Molly spent two days being pretty ill as well (afer a vaccination) and we both ended up laying on the couch for a weekend moving as little as possible, much to Sadie's unhappiness. Poor little girl...no one wanted to play with her. I plan to put in some fencing this year so they have a nice area to run in. I'm considering getting some agility obstacles for them to play on as well...maybe a tunnel or low bridge object. Terriers need to "work" at things to use up their energies and challenge them. I'm looking forward to tossing balls for them to chase without them getting tangled together by their cables. My only concern is that the ground is uneven in the location where I want to put the fence. I'll need to consider how far down to bury it or find some other way to prevent their escape.

Other than making plans for the backyard (fence, flower beds), I did manage to get fabric pieces cut out for the next baby quilt. I've considered sewing the blocks together this weekend but we'll see how much time I end up having. It's alright if it waits awhile yet. This next baby isn't due until June so I have a little bit of time.

Next weekend I'll be heading to Zander's house to participate in the March of Dimes annual walk. I'm a little nervous about it because it's 8.5 miles and I'm not in the best of conditions for that kind of exertion. But, even if I only walk part of it, I can at least say I participated.

Found a new favorite food at the grocery store today. A nearby town (Kalona, IA) has apparently opened an organic dairy factory and now produces organic yogurts. Since my doc said to start eating yogurt every day (in hopes it will help the stomach thing), I picked up my usual Yoplait light and then one of the organic cups to try out. Now I'm wishing I had foregone the Yoplait and just bought the organic. I couldn't believe it but the organic didn't hurt my stomach -- at all! And, it wasn't overdosed with sugar as most yogurts are. My only complaint would be that the plastic seal peeled off in strips instead of in one piece. But, my rating is "Deeeelicious"! I'll have to buy more tomorrow. :)

Have you asked your doctor's to test you for Celiac disease or IBS?

Actually they think it's a syndrome related to IBS called Bacterial Overgrowth Syndrome (BOS), usually treated with antibiotics. Since I'm on a waiting list to get into the GI clinic, I'm about ready to tell the doc to just give me the antibiotics and be done with it!
