Inevitability...

It seems inevitable the way my summer has gone. I start to work on the house, progess a bit with plans to continue and then I check the forecast... Rain, rain, rain... Now, given that the back of my house has exposed wood, I've really been wanting to finish scraping and then prime it before moving onto the next side of the house. BUT, every time it rains, I have to allow for several days of drying out time before I can even consider putting on the primer. Then, I have to allow for a day for it to completely dry. Do you think I've had that opportunity even once in the past two months?? Ha!

This past Sunday I was up on the roof at 6:30 a.m. to finish applying silicone around the new window trim (the upper portion that I could only reach with a ladder), scraping the interior wood still revealed (since the new trim boards are about 1-inch shy of covering the old trim board) and then applying primer to the interior trim and metal framework of the three easily reachable windows above the kitchen and carport roofs. (The other three windows are going to be more difficult AND two of those windows are still covered by house wrap.) I had hoped to be able to then apply the first coat of color later in the day but the forecast of rain for the week eliminated that hope. At that point, I just wanted the primer to dry before the rain started!! It was a valid concern since it was extremely humid and hot even at 6:30 a.m. and I knew it would only be worse as they day continued. Fortunately the rain held off until last night so I now just need to watch for an opportunity to apply my first color coat.

After my painting spree, I intended to mow the yard but the grass was still extremely wet from dew at 9:00 a.m. Intentions are wonderful things. I immediately discarded the idea and opted to wait another week. Of course, with the amount of rain we are supposed to get, I may have to use a brush cutter to mow the lawn when it finally drys out! No worries about drought this year! My scraggly desert-like portion of the yard in typical summers is a lush carpet of grass and creeping charlie. My poor mower will need a newly sharpened blade by the time the mowing season is done!

No worries, you still have three months of typically very dry weather ahead. At least that is what I keep telling myself.
