Do It Yourself...
Who needs braun when faced with a woman's cleverness?? Oh yes! I got home from a Turkey break at my parents' house so face my increasingly unsatisfactory desk/study area. What's wrong? It's not an efficiently functioning room. That's what is wrong. (I'll get to the braun in a minute.)
When I first moved into my house, I had to put my bed into one of the downstair's rooms. First, I had it in the living room, then I moved it into the dining room, and finally back into the living room. It stayed on the first floor for 1.5 years until I could finish the upstairs bedroom. (My entire upstairs was a pepto-bismal pink and has 50's vinyl floors. Let me tell you - it's very sexy *gag*. LOL) Because the upstairs was always so cold in winter, I was concerned about leaving my computer up there...plus, I wouldn't use it because it was too damn cold to sit up there! So, I created a six foot long desk area in my dining room by attached a large shelf board to the wall. My actual computer desk was way too heavy to carry down by myself, plus I wasn't satisfied with it's lack of multi-use aspects. I've been using this as a computer/work desk for the past year.
Several months ago I finally finished my upstairs bedroom and my family came up to help me move things around, as well as assisting with other "Daddy-Do" projects. One of those tasks was moving all of my desk stuff downstairs in the dining room area. This would now be my study/library area. Here's where I've run into problems. I have a large elliptical machine that also has to reside in this desk area. It separates the two working areas - computer and long desk. It's an incredible pain in the rear when you're trying to move between the two areas. So, when something isn't working, I plot changes to make it better. You can ask Becky if you want, but it's well known that I like to rearrange furniture frequently. I'm not as bad as I used to be, but if something's not working for me, then a big switcharoo tends to occur. Plus, sometimes you just need a change to liven things up. Once I do find an arrangement that works for me, I typically leave it for quite awhile.
Now, back to the braun. I had mentioned in a previous post that I had a tall bookshelf taking up space upstairs and that I'd like to see it moved downstairs. I had also mentioned that I'd have to wait for someone with more muscles than I have to do that because it was too heavy. muhahahahahha. Never underestimate a woman's cleverness. The bookshelf is now downstairs and I did it all by myself. All I needed was a carpet remnant and minimal lifting and that baby slid down the stairs real easily. The most difficul part was negotiating the tight curve in the stairwell. Yep, now I just need to figure out what to do with all of the OTHER stuff that was on the desk and wall shelves. Hrmm....
