Let's hear those sleigh bells...
Confession: Christmas is my FAVORITE holiday. No, it's not because of the presents...there's just something about snow on the ground, a lighted christmas tree, carols playing on the stereo, hot chocolate, and a general cheerful atmosphere that just puts me in a fantastic frame of mind. It's at those times that I don't even mind the subzero temps, as long as I don't have to go out in them!! Of course, our real cold temps don't occur until January and February. Sometimes it doesn't even snow until a few days before Christmas.
Now, even though it's my favorite holiday, I do feel it needs to be in its place...AFTER Thanksgiving which is why seeing all of the decorations and commercialization in early fall annoys me. I don't want to celebrate Christmas for half of the year. It deserves a special time all on its own. That said....I started wrapping presents tonight. Woohoo!
There is only one thing that would make my Christmas better this year. I have been on the hunt for a really good classic Christmas CD. I don't mean current groups singing old carols...I want the original carols, sang by Bing Crosby or Dean Martin, etc. I've only been able to find the rock group or orchestral collections. I do have a "fun" CD where I jam along with the Beach Boys and "Little Saint Nick", but Christmas isn't really Christmas if you can't listen to classic carols. I also need to find Tchaikovsky's complete Nutcracker Suite. Maybe I'll find them this year. Or maybe someone will take pity on me and find it for me. LOL
Of course, now that it's after Turkey holiday, I need to go find all of my outside lights for stringing up. I've already got a wreath on my front door....I said I wasn't going to put up a Christmas tree, but maybe I can find a small one to put up somewhere (and pray the cat won't eat it). Maia loves Christmas trees too, but her interest is more of a "how does this taste?" fascination than my "oooh, that's pretty" attitude.
