Ho Ho Ho! Welcome to the family x-mas...
For the past two years my father's side of the family has drawn numbers for unmarked gifts under the tree. The first person who draws usually ends up with a gift they don't want because everyone else is able to "trade" their gift for someone else's. Last year there were two gifts for every person so we drew twice. This year, we all brought one gift (girls brought a girl's gift, boys brought a boy's gift) that costs no more than $10. We all drew once and watched the trades begin. Then we drew again and had the option of choosing a new gift (there were a few extras under the tree), trading with someone else or keeping what you had. This was interesting. The hot item last year was a grilling accessory which held a can of beer. You put a whole chicken or turkey over the beer can and grill it, which is supposed to leave the meat very moist. The men fought over those something fierce. It was funny to watch. This year the hot item was the Texas Holdem' poker chip & card set. It made its way around the room several times! Other funny items from this year include a hot pink plastic purse, Grinch boxers, and a toilet paper holder that was also a radio.
Other than a fun gift exchange, there was lots of good food, good conversation, and lots of laughs. We are a very ornery group and always give each other a hard time. ;)

I came this close (imagine fingers really close together) to buying that Texas Holdem chip set for my $10 gift exchange gift this year. Instead I went for the classic handheld football game that was popular in maybe the early 80's? Anyway, I got some gourmet Jim Beam sauces out of the exchange which was better than the jar of fruit brandy I got last year.
