A touch of philosophy for the day....

A passage from a book about a man struggling to leave his "secure" job to pursue his dreams. The man was reading a quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: the moment one definitely commits oneself, then...a whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now."

So the man is thinking about this and about how scared he is in leaving everything that was stable. Then he tells himself this:

"For the first time, I realized that there was no turning back. For the first time, my understandable fears and doubts serve to magnifty just how critical it was that I continue on....For the first time, I realized just how much I needed me, and that if I dared to turn back now, I would be abandoning myself in an almost unforgiveable way."

It seemed appropriate following my "Turning Into a New Decade" post about thinking about where your life is headed and the decisions you must reach about the future. *ponders*
