She's gotten calmer...
On Saturday, my friend Ed Abbey and his wife stopped by for a surprise visit. I think they got the surprise though cuz I was really feeling my cold on Saturday and had spent the day dozing on the loveseat. They braved my germ-infested house anyway and got to meet my little white demon, Sadie. They laughed at how hyper she was, and I agreed that she is pretty hyper. But boy did I get an eye-opener today! Guys, compared to the 10-week old puppy I was playing with today, Sadie's pretty calm. The puppy, the last of Jill's litter, is the same age Sadie was when I brought her home with me. I couldn't believe how wiggly, how much constant motion this little white and black body was capable of producing! I remember she used to be just as hyper as that puppy, but because I'm with her everyday, I couldn't tell that she'd calmed down. Sadie didn't quite know how to handle it either and finally started flattening the puppy when she got to be too much. I just laughed, but it did change the idea I had about getting another puppy to keep Sadie company. Not once did Sadie's tail wag and I could tell she was only tolerating the puppy's presence. So, I'm definitely not going to have TWO Jack Russell terriers. If I did get another dog, it would have to be significantly calmer breed and probably male -- neutered, of course. (One thing we've learned is that when a female dog is expecting, she doesn't like other females in the house and gets very aggressive.)
I haven't made a final decision. I just think she'd be happier with another dog for company since Maia, my 3-year old sour puss of a cat, is definitely not a playmate for a Jack Russell's hunting/attack instinct. (Thank goodness Maia has her claws for defense!)

Yes we were surprised and I apologize for that. My wife said I should have called first but being already in your town, I figured a two minute warning isn't much better than the surprise. My wife already had what you had and I had the first signs so I don't think we were in any danger. I've been working around sick people for the last two weeks and I know my time has come. I just hope that I have had time to build up some immunity so my symtoms aren't so bad. Thanks for the abbreviated tour even though you weren't feeling well. It was nice to see this house from the inside finally after all this time. Hopefully sometime when your renovations are progressing and you don't have the 'death crud' as I call it, we will stop back.... and call this time. Get well.
