Glass bottles and an old-fashioned style...

I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things on my way home from the mechanic's. I've been trying to increase my calcium intake through more consumption of milk and so headed back towards the dairy area and discovered a new display of milk product. Heartland Creamery products, which I believe I blogged about previously some time ago, are now being offered in my local grocery store. I was excited! The milk is bottled in glass bottles which can be returned (rinsed) for a deposit refund. Although the initial cost is twice that of plastic containers, you receive $1-1.50 back for returned bottles so it actually only costs you $.40 for a quart bottle. I bought one pint of strawberry milk (it was really good!) and two quarts of skim milk. Once I return the three bottles I'll get $3 back. Who can beat $.80 for what comes to a half gallon of milk? Even the plastic half-gallons are rarely less than $1.10! Plus, you have to either throw away or recycle the plastic. These glass bottles are reused by the company. Now that's recycling!

I'll drink to that!
