Not a good day...
There's a heaviness of spirit in the office today. One of our staff members suffered a tragedy last night when her teenage son committed suicide. You feel helpless in situations like this, not knowing what to do or what to say. No words can comfort a mother after the death of a child. All we can do is continue with the day-to-day business of the office and hope she has family members with her for support.

I think it was Dear Abbey recently that dealt in her column about this subject. Basically she dealt with how hard it is to say something meaningful to comfort somebody. She said to go ahead and say it because although it may not sound meaningful to you, it might be to the recipient. It's always tough. I usually just write a letter to the family of some fond memory and send it via snail mail.
