To drive or not to drive...that is the question...

If anyone else is like me, they've been paying a lot of attention to those car sales ads that have invaded our television breaks lately. With gas prices on the rise, I'm trying very hard to limit my driving so as to reduce my fuel costs. Every time I see an advertisement for car sales, my attention is caught and I start to consider trading in my truck for something a little more mileage-friendly. However, since I had just paid off my truck loan, I really don't want to incur a new one, even if I did get a good trade-in value. I've now crossed the 100,000 mile mark on my odometer and I highly doubt I'd get too good of an offer. Over the past few years I've noticed that my "miles per gallon" have steadily come down from 30 to about 24. I used to be able to drive 300 miles on one tank, but anymore I can only get 240-250 miles. It sucks but it could be worse. Anyhow, I was scanning my CNN digests today and saw this article: Best high-mileage cars - Apr. 21, 2006. It doesn't recommend hybrid or extremely fuel-efficient cars because, let's face it, we want a comfy ride, not feeling like we're driving over a constant cattle guard. So, the cars listed in the article are still considered good mileage vehicles but with a little more comfort built into them. (I admit the Toyota Corolla is tempting.)

My wife basically has the Corolla or at least the frame, motor and drivetrain of one. The skins are that of the Chevy Prism. I've been thinking our next vehicle will be the Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry.
