Round and round we go...
So I took a few hours out of my weekend and joined a birthday party outing for a friend's 10-year old daughter. We had food & festivities at her house and then loaded up in a few vehicles to head to the roller rink! You guessed it - I was on roller skates for 2 hours. While I'd like to say "without stopping", I'd be lying through my teeth. Next time, assuming there is a next time, I'm taking either extra thick socks or I'm getting some of those cushy feet pad things to put on the areas of my feet where the "hot spots" developed. LOL Personally, I think it was because we were constantly going in one direction and a roller skate, having 4 wheels per shoe, is not easily made to change direction, resulting in the constant motion of the outward-facing foot to change the angle of motion. Hence, my right foot was hurting bad enough to make me look for a chair by 1.5 hours into the skating. I took frequent breaks but enjoyed the outing tremendously! Several years ago I essentially broke my ankle and had to give up rollerblading, a hobby of mine, for quite a while. Even two years post-break, roller blades made my ankle ache unbearably so I avoided them. I was a little concerned about tonight but it appears that any lasting damage has healed because the ankle is fine! Yes! While the beginning of tonight's adventure was wobbly, by departure time I was whizzing around the rink with confidence, only nearly falling once. If the wall hadn't been there to catch me, I would have fallen backward. Give me some credit though, I was turning around to help one of the other attendees, a little girl, who was having some problems navigating. By the time we left, I was even making fast turns like I used to on rollerblades. *sigh* It was nice.
Hopefully tomorrow morning there were be little lingering soreness in those leg muscles that got a work out tonight, but I'm not holding my breath...
