In the News...
Santa's Butt beer... who on earth would be attracted to a beer named after a derrier? Okay, okay so "butt" actually refers to the beer barrel according to the article, but please...most people will see a smiling Santa's backside prominently displayed on the label and think "my god...it's named after Santa's backside!"
A permanent ban on ANWR drilling... Hear! Hear! With the new democratic majority, there is new hope of being able to pass a bill permanently banning drilling in Alaska. Bush has been wanting to get his hands on that area since he came into office but what I find ironic is that the very area he wants to drill is home to polar bears and other wildlife. I'm trying to recall this accurately but wasn't he just pushing to have polar bears placed on the endangered species list?
Hand sanitizers... More businesses are offering free hand sanitizers in public locations. I've noticed that Hy-Vee, a local grocery chain, provides a container of sanitizing wipes for customer use upon entrance to the store. I admit that I don't take advantage of it as often as I should and considering how many germs are probably on the handles of the baskets and carts....well, I really should wipe those down on my way in. *ponders* Providing these for the public is a good way to increase awareness of how quickly germs can spread if preventive measures aren't taken. Having watched Stephen King's The Stand last night, I'm ready to be more proactive on the whole germ thing. lol
Thou shall not play with nuclear weapons... Can we adopt this as the 11th commandment? I understand there is a rumor that Israel is using Iran's refusal of ending it's nuclear program as a way to threaten the use of "low-yield" nuclear weapons against them. Now, I'm not certain what makes a "low-yield" nuclear weapon different from other nuclear weapons but to me, a nuke by any other name is still a nuke!! *sigh* I have to wonder if world powers would be so eager to go head-to-head if ol' G.W. hadn't paved the way with Afghanistan and Iraq. Of course, Israel denies this rumor to some degree but it seemed most officials, both civilian and military "declined to comment". That phrase always makes me think there is truth to rumor...

ANWR - If their is anything I have learned about congress/government, no law is ever permanent.
Hand sanitizers - I think it would be better to use them on the way out of the store after you have touched everything from cart to freezer door handles.
Nukes - Low yield means not as much explosive power. I doubt they would use them especially if China is siding with Iran and wants to protect 'their' oil supply.
I did finally hear that about China. I must have read it on another blog yesterday. *ponders* Given that, it's highly unlikely any nuclear action will be taken against Iran. (thank goodness)
