Eragon...
Well, I watched Eragon last night and, despite not having read the book (I'm only on page 18 or something), I could immediately tell that it was a poorly written script. The events, while spectacularly created and certainly attention holding for children, did not flow smoothly from one part of the story to the next, resulting in a rather chopped up story....similar to reading exercises in elementary school where you only read the main sentence in a series of paragraphs. You get the major points but the subtle, and far more interesting, character details were left out.
I feel like I'm not explaining myself well. It's like seeing a luscious piece of dessert only to take a bite and discover that it has little flavor. The movie was definitely lacking.
It actually makes me want to finish reading the book so I can satisfy the need for rich storytelling detail!

I think you'll find you despise the movie even more after you finish the book, and especially once you get through the second book. The movie sort of destroyed some of the things that happen in the second book. It was obvious the movie-makers were in a rush to get it out. If they had stayed close to the book, they could have created something out of this world. Instead, they put out a piece of rubbish that barely warrants the name "Eragon".
I almost always make it a point to read the book first before the movie even if it means I have to rent it. I say almost because sometimes I see a movie and only after seeing the credits realized that it was based upon a book.
