Stinkiness...

I don't understand what makes dogs head for the smelliest spot in the yard and roll in it with such enthusiasm. You think they'd figure out the bad association of roll in stinkiness with get a bath!

Over the past two days, my Jack Russell Terriers have had numerous sponge baths (aka washcloth with shampoo on it) and a full bath when the sponge bath wasn't good enough. Despite careful monitoring of their outside activities, I wasn't quick enough to stop Sadie from getting in another few rolls after the full bath. Fortunately a quick sponging off and application of smelly lotion cured the "pee-yews".

Oh well. They may not associate the stinkiness with bath time, but Sadie recognizes a washcloth now and heads for the nearest obstacle that will allow her to evade me....for awhile anyway. Once my annoyance turns to laughter (because she looks like I'm about to do something awful to her besides wipe off the offensive odor -- I didn't realize her ears could droop that low), she is more willing to give up the fight and deal with the dreaded washcloth.
