A frozen tundra...
Yet another doozy of an ice storm passed through Monday evening and Tuesday. Having experienced one last year, I knew what to expect and knew to keep an eye on my lines running from the back of the house to the utility pole. I had trimmed my trees over the summer in order to eliminate the most dangerous branches for line interference but my diligent efforts weren't enough to stop the inevitable. I did prevent the phone line from being ripped off the wall by ice-laden tree limbs, but the cable line became a casualty half-way through the storm. Now, I don't really mind if I lose cable because I have DVDs that I can watch, BUT my cable provider also supplies my internet access and a landline phone. With one fell swoop I became disconnected from the world and had to rely on the old-fashioned way of getting news -- the local radio station and neighbors. Additionally, the cable line just had to go when I was in the midst of some heavy Runescape battling of shades. I had visions of finding my character naked in Falador because I couldn't "log out" and was afraid that the game might have kept my player logged in despite my internet disconnection (and therefore at the mercy of enemies). Fortunately, today I checked my character and heaved a huge sigh of relief when I saw myself still in the shade tomb in full (expensive) armor. Shew! I'll definitely be selecting additional tree branches for trimming in the coming year!
Anyhow, all is well. The dogs and I played in the rain yesterday since we were ice-bound at home. I have some pictures of the ice but I don't think they turned out real well. Overall, I think I did pretty good - losing only a small limb from a tree and had the cable line ripped down. It could have been far far worse!

I just can't help but wonder how bad it would have been had it all been ice instead of mostly rain!
