The Painted Veil

I finally got around to watching The Painted Veil tonight. I've had the movie for a month and was avoiding the unending drama that I assumed it would contain. You could ask why I had it on my movie list if I wanted to avoid the drama and the reason is because I was interested in the story but dramatic movies can be exhausting to watch due to how invested you become in the characters. Surprisingly the movie was soft on drama. Basic description: woman married man but has an affair. In retaliation, her husband takes her with him to remote China where there is a cholera epidemic so he can watch her while doing his doctoring and research. While fighting cholera, they discover the good in each other and reconcile their marriage. Then the cholera becomes worse and they must face death. Yeah. High drama potential. I would normally avoid these movies but the trailer for it was so compelling I added it to my Netflix list without hesitation. I'm so very glad I did.

If you like Edward Norton, he does a good job with his role despite it being secondary to the main character. Naomi Watts played his wife, the main character, and she did an excellent job in her role. Wow.

I liked this movei so much I might have to buy it! (and I don't do that very often)
