The antics of Sadie

She really makes me laugh at times. She growls at her reflection in the oven door, tries to play with two toys at the same time (usually a plush squeaky toy in her mouth and pawing at a tennis ball to send it rolling across the floor), and goes into spasms of "the death shake" with her plush toys while growling and running around the house at the speed of light. Occasionally I have to wince as I hear her collide with a wall or other obstacle in her way. At other times I have to come to her rescue as she runs yelping because she's just knocked over my sewing basket (a shaker box sitting on a tripod) and scared herself silly. She frequently sits back on her haunches when we go outside to "potty", front paws folded in front her and looking like a prairie dog. It's adorable but I have wonder if her backside is freezing solid since she usually does this on the snow or ice. When she really starts to run, her ears flop and I'm reminded of the Disney movie "Dumbo" when he's learning to fly.

Of course, there are the not-so-adorable antics too. She thinks that transferring laundry from the washer to the dryer is an exotic form of "playing catch" as she attempts to nab underwear or whatever else is being tossed in. This also applies to cooking and vegetable peels that are intended for the trash can. Carrot peeling is her favorite veggie activity. They twist a lot in midair and are harder to catch. Nipping at the mouth, nose, and hands are definitely no-no's, which we are working on. Also on the no-no list is jumping up to nip at my clothes, usually resulting in pulled threads which makes me shout at her. I think the pottying in my bed issues are finally resolved with increased potty ventures outside right before bedtime and removing the baby gate from the second bedroom. The flooring in there is still the nasty 50's vinyl so it's easy to clean if there are midnight emergencies. Maia will just have to find another sanctuary. Now if I could just get her to quit chewing on blankets and towels....she has removed all of my blanket label tags that she has been able to reach thus far....
